Just in time for Halloween, here is a fun little bat quilt block for you to enjoy. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays so I just had to make a special block design for it! Happy Halloween!

8" Block

Cut 2 - 1 1/2" quarter square triangles from Fabric A - 2 1/4" squares are needed so use GO! Strip Cutter-2 1/4" (55053), then rotate 90° and cut them again on the same 2 1/4" strip cutter or use a rotary cutter to sub cut squares. Then sub cut the squares into quarter square triangles.

Cut 6 - 1 1/2" quarter square triangles from Fabric B - 2 1/4" squares are needed so use GO! Strip Cutter-2 1/4" (55053), then rotate 90° and cut them again on the same 2 1/4" strip cutter or use a rotary cutter to sub cut squares. Then sub cut the squares into quarter square triangles.

Cut 16 - 1 1/2" half square triangles from Fabric A - Use the GO! Half Square-1" Finished Triangle (55320)

Cut 16 - 1 1/2" half square triangles from Fabric B - Use the GO! Half Square-1" Finished Triangle (55320)

Cut 8 - 2 1/2" squares from Fabric A - Use the GO! Square-2 1/2" Multiples (55059); or GO! Value Die (55018); or create them by cutting 2 1/2" strips with the GO! Strip Cutter-2 1/2" (55014 or 55017), and then rotate the strips 90° and cut them again on the same 2 1/2" strip cutter or use a rotary cutter to sub cut squares.

Cut 2 - 1 1/2" squares from Fabric B - Use the GO! Strip Cutter-1 1/2" (55024), then rotate 90° and cut them again on the same 1 1/2" strip cutter or use a rotary cutter to sub cut squares.

Cut 12 - 1 1/2" squares from Fabric A - Use the GO! Strip Cutter-1 1/2" (55024), then rotate 90° and cut them again on the same 1 1/2" strip cutter or use a rotary cutter to sub cut squares.

Cut 2 - 2" quarter square triangles from Fabric A - 2 3/4" squares - no dies exist for this so it will need to be rotary cut and then sub divided into quarter square triangles.

Cut 6 - 2" quarter square triangles from Fabric B - 2 3/4" squares - no dies exist for this so it will need to be rotary cut and then sub divided into quarter square triangles.

Cut 16 - 2" half square triangles from Fabric A - GO! Half Square-1 1/2" Finished Triangle (55319); or GO! Bountiful Baskets (55048)

Assembly Instructions

Half square traingles made from squares1. Assemble sixteen Fabric A and Fabric B half square triangles. Refer to the Half Square Triangles from Squares diagram if using rotary cut pieces or visit the Half Square Triangles Quilting Basic Section for more information.

2. Finger press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Double check measurements of the half squares. If doing the 8" block, your half squares should measure 1 1/2" unfinished. If doing the 12" block, your half squares should measure 2" unfinished. If doing the 16" block, your half squares should measure 2 1/2" unfinished. If the square ended up too small, check your seam allowance is a scant 1/4" or if it was too big, trim down.

3. Assemble the two Fabric A and Fabric B quarter square triangles. Each quarter square triangle contains one Fabric A triangle and three Fabric B triangles. You will end up with some extra unused triangles.

4. Finger press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Double check measurements of the quarter squares. If doing the 8" block, your quarter squares should measure 1 1/2" unfinished. If doing the 12" block, your quarter squares should measure 2" unfinished. If doing the 16" block, your quarter squares should measure 2 1/2" unfinished. If the square ended up too small, check your seam allowance is a scant 1/4" or if it was too big, trim down.

5. Arrange the shapes as shown in the Exploded View Diagram.

6. Assemble the block in rows. Starting with the first row, align, pin and sew the squares together. Sew the remaining rows in the same manner. Press the seam allowances of each row in opposite directions to make it easier to nest the seams.

7. Match the seam lines in the first and second rows, nesting the seams then pin. Sew the first and second rows together. Continue to add the remaining rows in this manner. Press the block on the back then the front.
